From working backstage to standing on the stage himself, from producing music for pop stars to winning music competitions, the young Da Fay of the past has grown up to be a star on his own. Like Liu Huan said, wherever he goes, he brings happiness; wherever there is Da Fay’s music, people can find joy in even the most dull or troublesome circumstances. This summer, Da Fay will promote his all-new album No One is Mighty on a 19-city tour across China. Join him in singing about life, and let him calm the stifling heat and clamor of the city.
About Da Fay’s all-new album No One is Mighty
A selection from his lyrics:
We work relentlessly, stubbornly but not regretfully, in order to become a better self in the eyes of others.
Admit it, sometimes you want to just quit it and care about nothing.
Lao-tze bore his abilities, learn from him, the stock of the soul is simply inedible.
What you don’t know is that the stress of being a great person is huge!
Actually, they’re not as special as you think; you don’t need to put yourself down.
There’s no airbrushing real life and there’s no guide to how to live it, but relaxation is a form of philosophy.
If life is really just a bad practical joke, what’s the need in comparing yourself to others?
If the day isn’t going well, just let time keep passing on to the next!
Following the release of his album I Blame It All on You, Da Fay, a participant in the “Song of China” music competition series, received praise within rock critics. But hardworking as ever, Da Fay has retained his straightforward demeanor and helped you vent your anger and relax for a bit. In his 2015 record No One is Mighty, Da Fay tries to use every-changing melodies and rhythms to sing about his observations on life. Rather than saying that this album is a collection of Da Fay’s admonitions or advice, it’s better to say that it’s a book of cheat codes to daily life that he would like to give to his friends. In the face of those who beat around the bush or when dealing with our chaotic society, with a strong heart and an open mind you can get straight to the point. There is always blue sky above the dark clouds.
Da Fay is a blues musician and songwriter from Beijing. He started studying guitar at the age of 12 and formed a band named “Buffer,” acting as the band’s main writer and guitar player. In 2001, he was signed to Warner Records. In 2003, he formed another band, “Skyscraper.” He has also produced for pop stars Lao Lang, Liu Ruoyin, Zhang Zhenyue, Cai Jianya, Su Huilun, Xie Hexian, Ren Xianqi. In June 2010, he released R&B; in 2011, Da Fay was awarded Best Rock Singer at the Top Chinese Music Awards. In 2014, Da Fay signed with cross-over label Stallion Era and released I Blame It all on You.
Da Fay has a sharp musical and creative mind. He has seamlessly integrated blues, funk, reggae, and all sorts of other styles into his songs. His melodies flow smoothly through his songs; his lyrics are humorous but sharp, and within this contrast his warm voice resonates soothingly. I Blame It all on You, No Traces of Photoshop Here, Mess Cook D, Cause Me to Collapse, and Miracle are all songs that anyone in the audience can sing along with.
In 2014, Da Fay participated in “Song of China.” He performed a song titled “Summer” and won over the hearts and minds of the judges and fans alike, placing among the top ten contestants. In the lightning round segment, he performed “Don’t Sing Love Songs When You’re Lonely,” which became popular online. In 2015, the Ministry of Culture honored him with the “Pop Music Production Award.”
