Generation 6, sound moves on
These young bands cover a broad range, from punk to guitar noise to beautiful melodies. Thinking of themselves and their peers as Generation 6, the issue for these bands is not how to create Chinese rock, but instead how to build on what they like in the Chinese rock that has come before them to create music that is exciting and speaks to their own interests.
There are at least fifteen or twenty very good Beijing bands that consider themselves part of Generation 6, many of whom see their home base as D-22. For tonight’s show D-22 has selected seven of the most representative bands to present at Yugong Yishan, to introduce the Generation 6 bands to a wider audience.
