ST.VINCENT

Jue | Music + Art presents
St Vincent China Tour

Special Guest:Zhang Qianqian

Experimental folk-rocker Annie Clark aka St.Vincent toured as a member of Sufjan Stevens’ band and with psych-folk supergroup The Polyphonic Spree before making a name for herself as an indie-crush object under the renowned indie label 4AD, and opening shows for the likes of Arcade Fire, Death Cab for Cutie and Grizzly Bear. Her 2007 debut, Marry Me, won wide acclaim—entrancing critics from Pitchfork to Spin to the New York Times Magazine –with its precocious arrangements and elegant lyrics. Winning the Plug Awards’ Female Artist of the Year, St. Vincent has been drawing a steadily growing fanbase to her live shows with her magnetic stage performance.
Her second album, 2009’s Actor, has seen a significant growth in the musician herself: The arrangements are more masterful, the songwriting more grand, the performances ever more confident and inspired. Beginning each song as a secret film score extracted from some of her favorites—Badlands, Pierrot le Fou, The Wizard of Oz, Stardust Memories, Sleeping Beauty—the eleven tracks could be largely seen as Annie Clark’s own private cinematic experimentation, revealing its storyline in hushed, cunning couplets and cascades of scathing guitar.
