On March 10th, AV Okubo, Carsick Cars, P.K.14, Snapline, White, and Xiao He will cross the Pacific and arrive in Austin, Texas, to participate in the 23rd annual session of South by Southwest (SXSW), the country’s largest indie music festival.  Although two Chinese bands have peformed there before, this year will be the first time SXSW hosts so many Chinese bands, and in keeping with the occasion, the festival is organizing a special China Day event for all six artists/bands as well as arranging that each plays a minimum of three shows during the festival, opening for some of the most famous bands in the US. Following up from last November’s unexpectedly successful East Coast tour, involving Carsick Cars, P.K.14 and Xiao He, the six artists/bands will follow the SXSW performances with a one-month twelve-city West Coast. This will be the second US tour for Maybe Mars and the second major assault of Chinese rock on its home country. There will be many more.

In preparation for their tour and as a temporary farewell to Beijing, on March 6 AV Okubo, Carsick Cars, P.K.14, White, and Xiao He will join together at Beijing’s Yugong Yishan to prswent the city with the first major show of the Year of the Tiger.  P.K.14, Xiao He ,and Carsick Cars are already well-known to Beijing audiences as the most excting and important representatives of the Beijing music scene. Wuhan-based AV Okubo will soon be releasing their debut CD but have already ganrnered a reputation as the hottest band in China, and White — the legendary band that went into hiding after the release of their critically acclaimed first CD — will demonstrate their brand new line-up.  Will they be Riding Wan Hu’s rockets or drinking Yanjin beer madly?  Who knows?
